WINTER WRITERS RETREAT

How to Turn the Dreariness of February Into Fun
February seems to be the month of endless winter...when the roads get slushy and black...our shoes covered in salt and leftover snow...and the threat of negative temperatures still looms.
I don't care how many groundhogs don't see their shadow, by February the whole winter vibe is getting old.
That's why I always plan something in February to look forward to. I'm not much of a winter sports girl. The idea of freezing my tush off for the thrill of racing downhill in awkward footwear or sledding with a face full of snow isn't my cup of tea.
Speaking of tea, a nice pot of fragrant warm tea, a few cookies, and a cozy writing nook...now that's a February I can look forward to.
Scandinavians know this well. They should; their winters are longer than ours! They call it hygge. It's their name for creating a cozy winter vibe.
That's Why I've Planned a Cozy Winter Writer's Retreat...and You're Invited
THE ROSEMONT INN...
THE PERFECT COZY GETAWAY
ROOMS WITH PRIVATE AMENITIES
Each room provides a unique experience for the guest. Here are a few of the exquisite amenities you may enjoy:
- Beautiful views
- Private fireplaces
- Spa tubs
It’s time to nurture and express yourself in a beautiful setting.

VIEWS
The Inn sits on Lake Michigan in a quiet residential area across from the lake. Most of the rooms have views of the lake. The earlier you book your spot, the better chance you have of getting one of the rooms with the best views.

FIREPLACES
Every room has its own fireplace and sitting area. You'll have the chance to enjoy quiet mornings or afternoon respites in front of the fire in your private space.

WALKS BY THE LAKE
The area around the inn is known for its walkability. Kerry, our innkeeper, told me that locals love to take winter walks along the lakeshore. The quiet streets are perfect for it.

SPA AMENITIES
The rustic farmhouse setting is complicated perfectly by a beautiful spa and sauna for you to enjoy after a long walk or a writing session.

SCRUMPTIOUS BREAKFAST
Our hosts provide a full American breakfast with all of America's favorite foods. From breakfast meats to eggs to waffles and muffins, your palate will surely find something to satisfy.

COZY COMMON SPACES
Perhaps best of all, the common spaces for our meetings, chats, and writing time are well-appointed with warm fireplaces, cozy chairs, and writing tables with beautiful winter views.
EXPLORE ALL THINGS BOOKS IN FIVE WORKSHOPS
We will have five workshops at the retreat:
- Creativity exercises
- Writing techniques
- Editing tips
- Publishing options
- Marketing ideas
You can attend all, none, or some of the formal workshop sessions. If you do attend, you'll get great ideas and feel energized in your writing!

I'LL BE YOUR MENTOR AND GUIDE
Most of you know me...I'm Lara Helmling. I might be your publisher, editor or mentor. I have 35 years of experience in writing, 15 years as an acquisitions and developmental editor, and 7 years as an independent publisher.
You know I'm passionate about helping you get your message out to the world. Everyone who feels the tug of a book inside them has something to share that can make the world a better place.
When you join me for the retreat, you'll experience the same encouragement and direction that you do when we meet in other settings, with the added benefit of having the perfect getaway spot to write.
WRITERS AT EVERY STAGE ARE WELCOME
Whether you're just starting to write your first book or you're a blogger with tons of experience, you're going to find refreshment for your creative soul at our 2023 Winter Writers Retreat. My goal for each and every writer is that you will come away with new ideas, new energy, and a feeling of invigoration that will carry you forward in whatever you are writing.
Non-writers are welcome, too! If you'd like to bring a guest to enjoy the beautiful winter coziness of the inn and our evening jaunts into town for dinner.
